Bathing Belles and Diving Belle

The Scarborough Belles refers to two galvanised steel statues created by sculptor Craig Knowles, celebrating the town's history as Britain's first seaside resort.

The term also relates to the town's longstanding tradition of seaside beauty pageants, such as Miss Scarborough.

The Bathing Belle: Located at Peasholm Gap in North Bay, this statue depicts a 19th-century woman in a traditional Victorian bathing costume, stepping down from an imaginary bathing machine, symbolizing the modesty and social constraints of that period.

The Bathing Belle: Located at Peasholm Gap in North Bay.

The Diving Belle: Positioned on Vincent Pier near the lighthouse in South Bay, this modern figure is shown in a dynamic diving pose.

Unveiled in 2007, she symbolizes freedom, change, and the contemporary character of Scarborough.
