This extensive wooded hill is situated in the southern part of Scarborough and provides remarkable vistas from its elevation of 500 feet. At the top of the mount stands the War Memorial, a tall column measuring 75.5 feet (23.04288 meters).
The mount was historically known as Weaponness, with its current name possibly deriving from the belief that Oliver Cromwell stationed artillery there during the siege of the Castle.
